The project was supported and co-funded by SDU\u2019s ITC project \u2018Developing International Degree Programmes\u2019 led by special consultant Hj\u00f8rdis Albrektsen. Find out more about the International Department by listening to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/itc.sdu.dk\/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&amp;cntnt01articleid=11&amp;cntnt01detailtemplate=Simplex%20News%20Detail&amp;cntnt01returnid=1\">Stefan\u2019s talking head\u2019s video<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>Who was involved in the project?<br \/><\/strong>Study leaders, teachers, student services and students responded to the \u2018Developing students\u2019 intercultural competences project\u2019 proposal, which in turn led to seven self-initiated project ideas. Through collaborations with the project partners and a customised consultancy approach, we co-developed seven diverse ITC project activities and outcomes. You can access the <a href=\"https:\/\/itc.sdu.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/DevelopingStudentsInterculturalCompetencesProjectReportFINAL.pdf\">two-page project report<\/a>\u00a0here, which includes key information about each of the seven projects.<\/p><p>Below you can read how the project\u2019s goals and rationale align with SDU\u2019s strategy for internationalising the curriculum, what you can find on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/itc.sdu.dk\/?p=1\">itc.sdu.dk<\/a>\u00a0and contact us information.<\/p><p><strong>Three overall project goals:<br \/><\/strong>1. Equip students with intercultural competences, which will better prepare them for the complexities of changing, globalised professional and social environments\u00a0<\/p><p>2. Develop student and staff awareness of the relevance of intercultural competences<\/p><p>3. Contribute to student engagement and retention by developing their intercultural competences during their academic studies<\/p><p><strong>These goals correspond to SDU\u2019s 2020 internationalisation strategy<br \/><\/strong>SDU is committed to increasing numbers of international staff and students but this does not of itself elicit intercultural skills and competences, which are integral to team-work and collaborative learning (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Developing-the-Global-Student-Higher-education-in-an-era-of-globalization\/Killick\/p\/book\/9780415728058\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Killick, 2015<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Internationalizing-the-Curriculum\/Leask\/p\/book\/9780415728157\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leask, 2009<\/a>). Therefore, this project\u2019s goals were aligned with the skills\u2019 need identified in SDU\u2019s 2020 Strategy: as \u2018the university aims to attract more students and researchers from abroad\u2026it is important that all the university\u2019s\u00a0<strong>staff and students have the skills necessary to handle cultural and linguistic diversity<\/strong>\u2019 (p.14).<\/p><p><strong>What you can find on itc.sdu.dk<\/strong><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/itc.sdu.dk\/?page_id=47\">The Projects\u2019 page<\/a>\u00a0includes eight talking heads&#8217; videos where the project partners explain their motivation for developing students\u2019 intercultural competences and the different ways they took their ideas forward.
